Version 1.1
Last updated April 2025
Governed by English law

1. About these terms

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the Lief platform and website, operated by Lief World Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 14364751).

By accessing or using the Lief platform, your school agrees to be bound by these terms and by our Privacy Policy and Data Processing Agreement. If you do not agree, you must not use the platform.

References to "Lief", "we", "us" mean Lief World Ltd. References to "School", "you" mean the subscribing school or academy and its authorised staff.

2. The Lief platform

Lief provides a web-based character evidence and student recognition platform for UK schools, including features for logging and reporting on student behaviour, contributions, and development over time.

The platform is provided as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and is accessed via a web browser. We reserve the right to update, modify, or discontinue features with reasonable notice.

3. Account access and responsibilities

School responsibilities

  • Ensure only authorised staff access the platform using valid credentials
  • Keep login credentials confidential and notify us immediately of any unauthorised access
  • Ensure that data entered into the platform is accurate and complies with applicable laws
  • Obtain any necessary consents or approvals required by their own policies before using the platform
  • Comply with the terms of the Data Processing Agreement in relation to student data

Acceptable use

  • The platform must only be used for its intended educational purposes
  • You must not attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or modify the platform
  • You must not use the platform to store or transmit unlawful, defamatory, or harmful content
  • Automated access, scraping, or bulk data extraction is not permitted without prior written agreement

4. Subscription and payment

Access to Lief is provided under a subscription agreement agreed with each school. Pricing, billing frequency, and payment terms are set out in your individual order form or subscription agreement.

  • Subscriptions are invoiced annually unless otherwise agreed
  • Payment is due within 30 days of invoice
  • We reserve the right to suspend access for accounts with overdue payments after reasonable notice
  • Cancellation terms are set out in your individual agreement

5. Intellectual property

All intellectual property rights in the Lief platform — including software, design, content, branding, and documentation — are owned by or licensed to Lief World Ltd.

Your school retains all rights to the data it inputs into the platform. We do not claim ownership of student records, recognition logs, or any other data entered by your school.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the platform for your school's internal educational purposes during the subscription term.

6. Data protection

Lief processes personal data as a data processor on behalf of schools (data controllers) in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Full details are set out in our Privacy Policy and in the Data Processing Agreement provided to each subscribing school.

By using the platform, your school confirms it has a lawful basis for providing student and staff data to Lief and has complied with its own data protection obligations.

7. Availability and support

We aim to provide a highly available platform and will endeavour to notify schools of any planned maintenance in advance. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access but will use reasonable efforts to resolve issues promptly.

Support is provided via email at info@lief.world during normal UK business hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, excluding public holidays).

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Lief is not liable for any indirect, consequential, or incidental loss arising from use of the platform
  • Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising under or in connection with these terms is limited to the fees paid by your school in the 12 months preceding the claim
  • Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law

9. Termination

Either party may terminate the subscription at the end of the agreed term with written notice in accordance with the subscription agreement.

We may suspend or terminate access immediately if:

  • There is a material breach of these terms that is not remedied within 14 days of notice
  • There is evidence of unlawful use of the platform
  • Your school enters insolvency or administration

On termination, we will make your data available for export for 30 days, after which it will be securely deleted in accordance with our retention policy.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will provide at least 30 days' notice of material changes via email. Continued use of the platform after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
