Values

Recognise

There are many ways to be charitable, and they should all be recognised. Building a history of charitable activity over a lifetime has value.

Reward

Too much charity work goes unappreciated when it should be celebrated and rewarded.

Repeat

If the experience is enjoyable, engaging and rewarding, it will happen more frequently.

Partnerships

Mutually beneficial Charity-Business relationships

Successful examples benefit both parties, and rather than being transactional, they are consistent over time. It doesn’t need to feel like a one-way street with Businesses giving to Charity and receiving very little in return

Accessible & Inclusive

Charity should be available to all.

We mean this in the broadest sense. People who need support should be able to find it. People who want to help should be able to do so in an accessible way, and every charity should have access to great tools.

  • Currently Charity’s only metric is financial contribution. We believe this needs to change to reflect effort as well. Whether it’s time spent, miles run or skills shared, our goal is to recognise and reward more ways to be charitable

  • Many people want to do more to support charity but don’t have the means to donate money. We want to provide new ways to be charitable and ensure they’re recognised

  • 95% of UK charities have limited resources, making access to quality tools challenging. Better tools save time and energy and we want all Charities to have access to the best.

FAQ

Donations

  • Certainly! We are currently limiting this to two charities per activity, but we plan to extend this to more in the near future. Nominate a second charity when creating your fundraising activity and choose how you would like the proceeds to be split between the two. All donations will be split on receipt, and donors will see how much each charity receives for every transaction.

  • You can donate to or nominate an inactive charity to receive donations for fundraising activities. The Lief Foundation (CIC) will hold any donations for your nominated Charity while we contact them to activate the account. If, for any reason, we are unable to achieve this within a month, we will ask if you would like to choose a different charity or refund the donation.

  • Not right now. Our Charity database is limited to UK Charities registered with the Uk Charity Commission. We hope to expand this in the future.

  • Donations are automatically sent to charities, so unfortunately, we cannot refund donations. Please contact the Charity directly if you’d like to organise a refund.

  • Yes! Go to your preferred Charity profile on the Lief platform and select Donate. You’ll see options for how much you would like to donate appear, as well as an option for Direct Debit. Select this and you’ll be taken through the set up process with Stripe.

  • This is like a tip to Lief for providing the service. We don’t charge the Charities anything to use our platform and don’t take a percentage of donations, so we rely on these Voluntary contributions to keep the platform running and continue to improve our tools to support charity.

Features

  • Challenges are for individual fundraising, whereas campaigns are for connecting multiple fundraisers. Think of a Campaign as a way of grouping activities and Challenges as the individuals that go into the groups (or stay on their own)

  • The Lief homepage is the Charity Directory. Select the search Icon (magnifying glass) and start typing either the Charity name or the Charity Number. You’ll see the results below

Platform

  • We don’t charge any platform fee. We have also enabled the option for donors to cover any transaction fees to try and ensure that as much of the donation goes to charity as possible. Our only revenue from donations comes from Voluntary Contributions, which appear as an option on the Payment page.

  • Select Register in the top right corner of our homepage and enter an email and password, or use your Google account, and you’re ready to go.

  • Please complete the Business registration form at www.lief.world/business and we will set up your account which will appear alongside a personal account.

  • For now, please complete the form at www.lief.world/charity, and we will set up your charity profile, which will appear alongside your individual profile.

Our Story

Timing

Lief’s origins are in a post-COVID era with a growing awareness of mental health. Many of us experienced first-hand the harmful effects of long periods of isolation and a renewed appreciation for community. We wanted to do something to help more people.

Idea

It started with an idea about how businesses, charities and donors could all benefit from prize draws. Charities would receive a larger share from the sale of tickets to win great prizes while improving sales for businesses.

Research

Further research exposed the fractured landscape of the charity sector. There were so many charities facing so many challenges. A broad range of expensive, disconnected tools were inaccessible to all, but the largest charities and most of these perpetuated a poor donor experience.

Evolution

We set out to design a platform that would improve digital adoption for the smallest charities, making great tools that anyone could use to engage with the act of charity and providing a great user experience that rebuilds trust in the charity sector.
